What Could You Fit in a 5×5 Storage Unit?

What Can You Fit in a 5×5 Storage Unit?

When looking for storage facilities to keep your belongings, deciding on the ideal size storage unit for your needs is important. With so many sizes to choose from, you can find almost any size you want. But how much storage space do you need? Don’t waste your hard-earned money by paying for unused space in a unit larger than necessary. If you only have a few items to store, a 5×5 storage unit may be what you’ve been seeking.

With dimensions of 60 in by 60 in, usually with 8 ft ceilings, the size of this unit is comparable to a standard closet. This could hold the contents of a large closet or small room – think a desk, chair, dresser, twin mattress set, and some boxes.

Can I Fit a Queen Mattress in a 5×5 Storage Unit?
Technically, yes. A queen mattress is 60 in wide and so is a 5×5 unit. If the storage unit has 8 ft ceilings (which is common), there would be room for the 80 in length of a queen mattress when stood on end. A mattress is best stored straight up or laying flat to prevent permanent damage and misshaping. As both the width of the mattress and the unit are the same, it would be a tight squeeze. You could place the mattress into the unit angled corner to corner. This allows for an easier fit, but not much wiggle room to get to any items that may be stored in the corner behind the mattress.

Storage for Students
If you’re a student staying on or near your college or university campus such as Weber State University,  what will you do with your belongings when you go home during school breaks? Chances are, you don’t want to ship it all home in boxes or stuff your car so full you can’t see out the windows. A 5×5 unit may be the answer! It can hold items typically found in a dorm room – desk, chair, bookcase, twin bed, and some boxes. Most storage facilities offer flexible month-to-month rentals, so you can fill the unit before you head home and then empty it when you return to school.

Mommy’s Little Helper
Having children often results in losing space in your home. Children’s toys, books, and furniture begin to creep into areas you may have previously used to store your craft supplies, extra clothes or seasonal decorations. You don’t want to just toss these items into the trash. A 5×5 unit at your local storage facility can offer that extra closet you need. Stash your Christmas and Halloween decorations safely out of reach of the little ones. Winter coats and sweaters can be packed away to allow for more frequently worn clothing to be readily accessible. Still love to scrapbook, quilt or knit but don’t have the time you used to? Keep all of those supplies tucked away in plastic containers in your storage unit.

Small Business Storage
Self-storage units can be a great asset to your small business. If you run an online shop that carries physical inventory, you may notice your items for sale slowly encroaching on your living space. Boxes begin to appear one-by-one in the garage or spare bedroom. Maybe your in-home storage area is so small and cluttered you can’t easily find the items you need to ship to your customers. Renting a 5×5 storage unit can clear your space and help organize your merchandise. Placing some shelves into the unit can grant quick and easy access.

Most self-storage facilities have 5×5 storage units in their inventory. Although these units can be small, they may be just what you need when you only have a few items to store. Whether you’re a college student needing short-term storage during school breaks, a local law firm in need of document storage, or a parent wanting to create a little order in your home or a business owner wanting to reclaim your work or living space, consider these small units when searching for self-storage solutions.
